Click on the link above " Create a new group ". The next screen will allow you to specify the group name, abbreviation and links to groups / sites. You can also set up the privacy of the group. After you have filled in all the required fields, click the button " Create a". You can access the newly created group at any time of the day on the page group list .

Sections

Groups are a great way to communicate with a large number of players at the same time. Along the group top bar, you have four main ways to do this. Every time you create an ad, your group sends Steam notifications to members. Group admins can create a message by clicking on the " ads"And then pressing" Make an announcement". Whenever you schedule a group event, a pop-up will appear on the screen of each group member. Group admins can create a scheduled event by clicking on the" Event"And clicking on the button" Schedule an event". When you create an event, you will be prompted to provide several information fields, such as start time and time zone. Groups have discussions where members can post and reply to messages. Group admins can give the option to prevent members from creating or deleting forum sections. Moderators will have access to tools that will allow them to delete, merge, move and lock individual topics. Groups also have group chat. Group members can join the chat by selecting the " Enter chat»At the top of the group. You can also enter the chat through the " Groups"In the list" Friends"In the Steam client.

Permission rights

You can assign access rights to each member level by clicking the Edit Group Permissions button. Almost every action invites group members to edit, create, and so on. Here you can choose to access the group to be open or closed. Group members can be demoted or removed from the group by clicking on the Manage Group Members tab. Click the icon next to a member's name to designate him as an Officer or Moderator. on the officer's icon to downgrade his status to a member Click on the member's icon to permanently remove him from the group (if only the group is private)

Any active Steam user can create his own group, where he will post a variety of content: create news and events on a specific topic, it is convenient to communicate with clan mates, the game server, and write reviews. Initially, you just need to create it, and it is not so difficult to do this.

Creating your own group on Steam

It is immediately important to note that your account should not have a status "Limited"... This rule applies to those profiles that have not fulfilled one of the main conditions for verifying themselves as a user - they have not contributed to the Steam wallet or have not spent an amount equivalent to $ 5 on games. We discussed the solution to this problem in more detail in our other article regarding the impossibility of adding friends - this prohibition also appears on limited accounts. Read Method 1 in it to find out all the features of verifying your account.

All other users can start following the next instruction.

  1. Through any Steam window, go to the subsection "Groups"by hovering over your nickname at the top of the window.
  2. On the left pane, find the button "To create a group…".
  3. First of all, you need to come up with its name, then an abbreviation (it will be displayed small print to the right of the name), personal link. Immediately decide whether this group will be open by leaving the appropriate box blank or ticking it. The type of closed group can be selected after its creation.
  4. At this stage, check the correctness of the written data and click again "Create".
  5. Done - now you have become the creator of a full-fledged group, which, however, needs to be configured and filled with content. But first, it is suggested to fill in additional fields, such as "Title", "About myself", "Language" and others. You can always change the specified abbreviation and personal link if they no longer suit you. Please note that you can also access this menu through the "Edit group profile" item in the menu "Control"... Below we will tell you how to enter the menu itself.
  6. The main tasks will be performed through the block "Control", which is located on the bottom right. However, if you click on any of its items, you will find yourself in the settings menu, where on the right there will be a more advanced menu for managing the group. Next, we will consider exactly it.
  • "Make an announcement"... Using formatting (don't forget to press the button Formatting Helpif you want to create beautiful ads), you can post any news.
  • Often the first announcement is a greeting and an introduction to the topic of the group, but you can go straight to the point, for example, to write internal rules.

To publish, click the corresponding button. The ad will immediately appear on home page, and any user can read it, leave a comment.

  • "View hidden ads"... If you check the box next to the item "Save hidden draft ad", none of the users will see it.
  • You have the opportunity to view, change and publish at any time by going to the view hidden ads tab.

  • "Schedule an event"... Events are usually created to alert community members to live streams, an impending game, and other news where notification time plays a role.
  • After that on the tab "Developments" what you planned will appear.

  • Select Player of the Week... Informal rewarding of a group member who for last week he stood out in some way and distinguished himself, a kind of honor roll. Click on the gray cup icon next to the player or players who you think are worthy of the award. In a small pop-up window, confirm your intention.
  • He will appear in the Top Players of the Week section on the homepage, just above the list of all members of your community.

  • "View group history"... To learn more about the actions that you and other administrators (if you assigned them as such) performed in the group at a specific time, go to this section. Any activity performed by all users with elevated powers is listed here.
  • "Edit group profile"... We already talked about this above, in the previous step.
  • Chat Blocks... You can block every user who does not follow the rules established in your community. On this page, you can also unlock it by following the instructions at the top of the window.
  • "Member Management"... Each member of the group can be assigned a certain status, depending on which he will receive certain rights. Naturally, officers and moderators have a higher status than ordinary users.
  • "Edit group permissions"... In this section, you can change the type of the group by opening or closing it in a certain way at any time. In addition, it is here that the available actions for all types of group members are configured. This is very important, because the group topic and the users collected in it assume different levels of access to certain community functions.
  • "Application management"... If the group wears "Limited" or "Closed" status, new members will be able to join it only after your approval.
  • Add / Edit Forums... Here you can create different forums, within which discussions will already be created. For example, you can create a forum "Discussion of such and such a game." And within this forum, users who have joined will be able to create separate topics regarding different areas associated with it: collecting CW, bugs, exchanging in-game items, etc.
  • At the administration stage, a name is set, the type of participants who will be able to view and comment on discussions.

Already leaving the administration in the group itself and switching to the tab "Discussions", on the right side of the window you will see the block "Forums"where the forums you created are located (provided that there are more than one forum).

You can add discussions with the appropriate button, using formatting as needed. Before adding, you can easily change the forum in which the topic will be published.

There are also additional functions that we will not consider in this article.

  • "Block management"... A section similar to the chat blocking described above, only it concerns bans on forums.
  • Curator Settings... Each group owner can eventually become a curator - a user guide to games in Steam. This role involves writing reviews with their opinions on different games that will help ordinary users decide whether to buy a particular product or not. The difference between reviews and classic reviews from people who bought the game is cardinal. Such posts should be well-composed, objective and as unbiased as possible, as well as detailed and interesting, interspersed with, for example, little-known facts, references, history.
  • For more details on how to become a curator, see the corresponding section.

  • Do not forget to use the tabs, where many functions of the group are located and there is a block with settings for their administration.
  • Now you know how to create and configure a group in Steam. After completing the steps, you will need to recruit an audience and try to interest it in the published content. We also recommend reading our other articles, which will be useful to all group creators.

Groups are user-created hotspots where people can get together to play games and participate in discussions.

Group owners and administrators can manage group membership, filter content, and change the capabilities of other members.

If the request to join the group is rejected, it is possible to join it in the future only by invitation from its member.

If your group is associated with any site, be sure to include it with a link and title.

What opportunities does the group give

As a group administrator, you can make various announcements and events, create discussions, and select curators, but first things first.

Announcements are great if you need to notify members of something important. For example, in addition to your group, a website has opened - you can tell about this through the ads that are visible on the group's main page. To create an ad, go to the "Ads" tab and click "Make an ad". After writing the text, you can preview the result, and only then publish.

Events are required in order to plan some important event in advance. For example, in a week you will be playing some kind of game - with the help of an event you can notify all members of the group about this. They will be notified accordingly. To schedule an event, click on the corresponding button in the group administration, and select the exact date and time for the event to start.

Discussions replace forums and are great for allowing members to discuss new games or something else. To create discussions, you just need to click the Start New Discussion button on the group home page.

You can add a curator only if your group contains 50 or more members. What are curators? These are the people or groups of people who write game reviews and help users make purchases. Curators are a great way to boost a group's popularity.

In order for your group to be on the curated list, you need to write at least 10 game reviews and come up with a slogan in the settings. You can enter information that describes as best as possible what you are going to convey to visitors - what games you are reviewing, what is important to you in the gameplay, etc.

You can also add new curators to your group. To do this, select any member of the group and promote him to an officer in the settings. After that, the user can leave their recommendations for the game.

    Group permissions

Be sure to edit your group's permissions. To do this, go to the group and select the "Edit group permissions" section. In the window that appears, put a full stop in front of those items that you consider necessary for your group. You can make a group both open with real freedom of speech, or completely closed, which can only be entered with your approval.

How to invite people to a group

Go to your group and click the "Invite Friends" button. A window with all your friends will open in front of you. Check the box next to the users you want to invite, then click "Invite to group". Invites will be instantly sent to users.

You can also add people you've recently played a game with to a group. For example, you just played CS: GO with some pro and you want him to join your group. Just go to the Recently Played Together menu and send this user invitation.
